The Easy Way To Overcome The Flashdisk Request Format

Netgenz - Technology  Computer and Internet The need for a flash disk is quite important for some people. The reason is, the flash disk can be used as a temporary data and file storage place for those who need it. Sometimes, a flash disk will also be very useful as a backup place for important files.

1. Unrecognized File System

One of the reasons why the flash drive asks to be formatted is because your flash has a system format that your PC doesn't recognize. This is closely related to the operating system used. Microsoft Windows generally supports three different formats namely NTFS (New Technology File System), FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32), and exFAT (the superior version of FAT32).

Have you ever lent a flash drive to a friend who uses Linux? It could be that your flash has been formatted to ext2 or ext3 which is compatible with the operating system. So that when it is returned, you who use Windows are overwhelmed because ext2 and ext3 cannot be recognized on this operating system.

2. Interrupted File Transfer Process

We recommend that when a file is going through a modification process (moved, copied, or saved), don't let this process be interrupted. Because this can trigger data loss or make the file become corrupt.

In certain cases, when the PC turns off suddenly while the flash is transferring data, the file system will change to RAW. The same thing can happen to a flash that is suddenly revoked.

In this condition, all data on the flash cannot be accessed and when viewing the Properties menu, the file size in it appears as 0 bytes – you will be asked to format.

Not only flash, but any hardware that is infected by the virus will also experience a variety of various problems. There are those whose PCs cannot connect to WiFi, advertisements appear constantly, and so on.

In this case, it could be that your flash drive cannot be accessed because it is infected with a virus from a file you downloaded on the internet. Viruses can infect your PC or flash drive in various ways, through installing applications from suspicious sources, getting infected from other flash drives, or because downloaded attachment files contain viruses.

How to Overcome Flash Disk Request Format

After knowing the various reasons above, now is the time for you to overcome the flash that keeps asking to be formatted. Some of the ways that we have summarized will be sorted from the lowest difficulty level to the most difficult.

1. Plug the Flashdisk in Another USB Port

The ability of a PC or laptop to detect USB devices is determined by the driver. A driver is a set of files that can be installed so that the operating system can recognize and interact with hardware devices such as printers, card readers, modems, and USB flash drives.

So when the flash drive asks to be formatted, it could be because there is an error in the driver installation. This can cause one of the USB ports on the PC to detect the flash drive as RAW. Therefore, try to plug the flash in another USB port. If the flash still asks for the format, try the following methods.

2. Restart PC

If the flash is plugged into a PC that has not been turned off for a long time, there could be an error that makes it difficult for the PC to recognize the flash properly.

PCs that have been used all day without stopping may contain a lot of unnecessary temporary files and hamper performance. When restarted, these files will disappear from RAM and the PC can turn on again in a "fresh" state – maybe this method can make your flash drive detected normally.

3. Plug the Flashdisk into Another PC

Different PCs certainly have different conditions. It is not uncommon for two computers with similar operating systems to have different speeds and capabilities. This is influenced by the type and number of applications installed and how often the Windows Registry is maintained.

So, it is not impossible that other PCs can detect your flash normally. If successful, you can directly backup important files. The sign, the problem lies in your computer.

4. Do a Flash Drive Check Through CMD

There is another way that can be done to overcome the flash drive asking for the format, although it is a bit difficult for people who are not used to operating the Command Prompt. You can use the chkdsk command to check the integrity of the flash file system and fix some errors.

Open Command Prompt via the Windows search field on the bottom left. Type "cmd" and select Run as administrator. Then, type "chkdsk d:/f" in the Command Prompt. Don't forget to replace the letter "d" earlier with the problematic flash disk partition. Then, press Enter and wait until the checking process is successful.

5. Use a Data Retrieval Application

If the methods above still can't fix the flash that asks for the format, at least you can try to save the data on it before formatting.

You can use a third application such as MiniTool Power Data Recovery which is capable of retrieving files on a flash drive whose file system is detected as RAW.

Using it is also very easy. First, visit the MiniTool page (www.minitool.com) then click on the Download menu. Then, scroll down until you find the MiniTool Data Recovery section.

Choose Power Data Recovery 8.7 Free – this application is full version and free. But its features are quite limited, namely it can only save files with a maximum size of 1 GB. Suitable for those of you who only want to retrieve important data such as work documents or thesis.

Open the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete. The installation process will download additional files that are not so large. If it is already installed, click the Start Now button.

In the window that opens, select the Removable Disk menu and choose the name of your flash drive. Then click the Scan button. Wait until the application detects the files you want to save, select the file and click the Save button – save the file in a safe location. Once the important data is safe then you can format it on the flash.

Those were some of the ways you can do to overcome the flash request formatting. For the future, it is recommended to be more careful in treating the flash.

Always do safely remove hardware, wait until the copy process is complete before revoking it, only download applications from trusted sources, and so on. Then, make backups of important files by uploading them to cloud-based storage media such as Google Drive and MEGA.
