1. Make sure you have a backup

First and foremost, make sure you have a backup. Always prepare backups of some of your computer or netbook data on an external hard drive or cloud. So when some unexpected things happen, such as malware attacks, your data is still safe.

2. Disconnecting the Internet Network

Then, if your computer or netbook is connected to the internet, immediately cut off internet access when you suspect that malware has attacked. This is done to prevent data transmission from your computer to other factions over the internet. In addition, internet access is generally a gateway for malware.

3. Do Safe Model

Safe Mode is a Windows run option that is used when trying to fix damage to the device, one of which is when a malware attack occurs. To enter the Safe Mode, all you need to do is:

  • Restart your computer or netbook
  • Press F8 on the keyboard
  • There are Safe Model options, namely Safe Model (without internet network), Safe Mode with Networking (with internet network), and Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

4. Delete Temporary Files

5. Scan Devices Using Anti-Malware

If you already have anti-virus or anti-malware software installed on your computer/netbook, immediately scan the device in detail. The scanning process will generally run for 15 minutes or an hour. You just have to wait until the scanning process is over and the anti-malware software will automatically remove the malware.

6. Use Windows Defender

Not all computer or netbook owners install anti-malware software on their devices. If you are counted as one of them, there is no need to worry. Because Windows has provided built-in anti-malware software, namely Windows Defender.

7. Remove Unrecognized Programs

After the malware scanning and removal process is complete, it's time to remove the annoying software or program on your device. Look at the list of programs/software installed on your device and check if there are any programs you don't recognize.

To check, open File Explorer and click This PC > Computer > Uninstall or change a program. You can also open it via Windows Settings > Apps. Check one by the programs on the list. If there is a program that you do not recognize, uninstall it immediately.

8. Do a browser reset

Just as explained earlier, malware often takes its source from browser downloads. Therefore, one of the steps to remove malware is related to the browser.   2. Click Settings.
  3. Scroll the page to the bottom.
  4. Click on Advanced.
  5. Search and get side Reset and clean up.
  6. Click Clean up computer.
  7. Click the Find button.
  8. Wait for Chrome to find out the software is at risk.

If found malicious software, click Remove to remove it. You may be asked to restart the computer or netbook you are using. If you don't believe the malware is gone, you can also reset the browser back to its default settings. Here's a tutorial to do:

  2. Click Settings.
  3. Scroll the page to the bottom.
  4. Click on Advanced.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open the Mozilla Firefox program.
  2. Click the Help menu.

Microsoft Edge
