Simple Difference RAM from generation DDR 1, DD2, DDR3, and DDR4?

The following are simple differences in RAM from generations of DDR 1, DD2, DDR3, and DDR4.



1. DDR 1

DDR Abbreviation (double data rate), namely RAM as the first generation is the memory that started using double clock cycle technology. This is different from SDR, namely (Single Data Rate) which can only perform a single clock cycle speed, so DDR RAM can transfer data at a frequency twice as fast as SDR type, DDR RAM 1 has the following types of speeds, basically only around 200-400MHz, while the decomposition is in more detail regarding the speed as follows and has a voltage of 2.5 / 2.6 volts.

2. DDR2


DDR2 RAM has twice as many clock cycles, which means, its capability is twice as fast as DDR1 generation

The memory clock is from 100 MHz to 266 MHz. generally, DDR2 types have type names like this DDR2-400, DDR2-533, DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR2-1066, And has a transfer frequency between 400-1966 MHz, and requires a voltage of 1.8 volts

3. DDR3


While DDR3 RAM in terms of the number of memory cycles is in the range of 100MHz to 266 MHz, not much different from DDR2, the difference is the speed of the data transfer frequency. which is higher, reaching 2133 MHz. Maximum DDR2 is only 1066 MHz and the voltage is more efficient, which is only 1.5V (DDR2 requires a lower voltage, namely 1.5 Volts.


4. DDR 4


The latest type of RAM with data transfer speeds of up to 2133 ~ 3200 MT / s. DDR4 RAM is considered more efficient and economical because it only has a voltage of 1.2V. DDR4 RAM as a new generation is capable of achieving data transfer rates of 2400 MT / s. and a voltage of 1.2 volts

In DDR4 RAM there are four groups of memory banks where each group can handle operations independently or independently. So that DDR4 RAM can process 4 data in one clock cycle, of course, it is much more efficient than the DDR 3,2 generation let alone 1. This type of DDR4 RAM also has other features such as DBI (Data Bus Reversal), CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check), and CA parity. These features increase the stability of data transmission/data access.
